New AWWA Ranch Riding Amateur Derbies Created for 2021!

After the successful debut of the AWWA Ranch Riding Jr. Horse Jackpot, the AWWA Board of Directors decided to continue the jackpot theme with a Ranch Riding AATR Derby Jackpot.  A Ranch Riding Amateur Derby for horses 6 to 8 years old was created to complement the fact that AHA will be holding a Ranch Riding Futurity beginning in 2021.  Rather than having two pots of money going to the Jr. Horses, it was proposed by the AWWA to hold an amateur derby instead.  Scores earned in their Ranch Riding age group classes will be used to determine placings in the Derby.  Horses must be 6 to 8 years old, ridden by an amateur, and entered through the AWWA process.  There will be an AATR Derby for Arabians and Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabians with $1,000 added in each class.

2020 Bonanza Program Winners Announced! Get Your 2021 Entry Forms in June!

Congratulations to our top money earners in the Eleanor’s Arabian Farm Bonanza Program at the 2020 U.S. Nationals!  Taking home big checks in the purebred category was Lyra Waggoner with MR UNIVERCE for $3,000 and Tammy Adams with WERDYCT for $2,750.  Lyra won a ton of cash last year as well, but 2020 was Tammy’s first time as a Bonanza competitor, demonstrating that it pays to enroll in the AWWA Bonanza Program!!

For the Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabians it was Rapscallion Arabians, owned by Dwyatt and Gigi Bull, who took home the BIG BUCKS.  Their two geldings, PAF HITMAN and JUST PLAIN LUCK combined their winnings for a total of $5,700, while Michelle Pease-Paulson, and her mare, SS A NOBLE STAR, earned another $2,000 this year.

The Eleanor’s Arabian Farm Bonanza Program continues into 2021 so be sure to enter your horses in the program.  Entry forms will be available by June.

Arabian and Half-Arabian Ranch Riding Junior Horse Futurity Comes to the WW Celebration Show in September

The Arabian Working Western Community Facebook group brainstormed this past winter, culminating in the announcement of the Arabian and Half-Arabian Ranch Riding Futurity (horses aged 3 – 5).  This event will offer $5,000 in added monies, split evenly between purebred and half-Arabian divisions in 2019. The Ranch Riding Futurity concept has had great traction among other stock horses, but until now has no equivalent in the Arabian breed.

The Arabian and Half-Arabian Ranch Riding Futurity is a great opportunity for young horses that might not be ready mentally or physically to take on the challenges of Reining, Cutting or Reined Cow Horse Futurities, but are solidly in their training process and ready to start a show career.  This lower-key, lower stress alternative allows breeders, owners and trainers to show off their young stock, earn accolades and win some money to support their showing, breeding and training programs.

Ranch riding offers a showcase for the inherent versatility of the Arabian, and allows many of our breed types and bloodlines to participate successfully. Arabian and Half-Arabian western pleasure, hunter pleasure, sport horses and working western horses can all find a place in this exciting discipline.  By introducing this new event, we hope to grow the Ranch Riding division as well as help support and incentivize breeders, trainers and owners who are producing and showing versatile, athletic Arabian and Half-Arabian horses.  Be there at the WW Celebration Show, September 12 – 15, 2019, Alliant Energy Center, Madison, Wisconsin! Enjoy watching or being a part of this exciting new Arabian competition!

Three Shows Feature 2019 Ranch Riding Jr Horse Classes

A group of fun-spirited ladies have created the Arabian & HA/AA Ranch Riding Jr. Horse Troika to spice up the competition this year prior to the first ever U.S. Nationals Ranch Riding Jr. Horse classes. The Troika consists of three shows all holding Ranch Riding Jr. Horse classes in 2019. The Mayfest Challenge in Texas added Arabian Ranch Riding Jr. Horse and HA/AA Ranch Riding Jr. Horse to their schedule. Both of these classes will award $500 in prize money, sponsored by Sandy Woerle. Mayfest is held May 3-5 at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, TX. Not to be outdone, the WW Celebration held annually in September at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI., also added $500 to their Arabian and HA/AA Ranch Riding classes. As an added incentive to compete in these classes at the U.S. National Arabian Championships the end of October in Tulsa, OK., there will be a beautiful trophy buckle awarded to the high point winner that attends all three of these shows. Thank you to Kristen Fisher, Patty Liarakos, Donna Wakefield, and Sandy Woerle.
